Technology should make life easier — not more stressful. Whether you're using an iPhone for the first time or just want to get more out of the one you have, this guide walks through the most useful features in simple, plain language. And if you'd prefer hands-on help at home, our Senior Tech Service is just a call away anywhere in Columbus, OH.
How to Make a FaceTime Video Call
FaceTime lets you see the person you're talking to — like a video phone call. To use it: open the FaceTime app (the green icon with a white video camera). Tap the "+" button, type the name or phone number of who you'd like to call, then tap the green video camera icon to start. Make sure you're connected to Wi-Fi for the clearest picture and sound.
How to Send a Text Message
Open the Messages app (the green speech bubble icon). Tap the pencil and paper icon in the top corner, then type a name or phone number. Tap the white text box at the bottom of the screen, type your message, and press the blue arrow button to send. If the arrow is green instead of blue, you're sending a standard SMS text — both work just fine.
How to Make the Text Bigger
If the text on your screen is hard to read, go to Settings → Display & Brightness → Text Size and drag the slider to the right. For even larger text throughout the entire phone, go to Settings → Accessibility → Larger Text and toggle it on. This works across apps like Messages, Mail, and Safari.
How to Use Emergency SOS
If you ever need emergency help, press and hold the side button (on the right side of the phone) and either volume button at the same time. Hold until a slider appears, then drag "Emergency SOS" to call 911. You can also configure it to call automatically — go to Settings → Emergency SOS to turn on that option.
How to Share a Photo with Family
Open the Photos app and find the photo you want to share. Tap it to open it, then tap the share button — a square with an upward arrow — at the bottom of the screen. Tap Message, choose the person you want to send it to, and tap the blue send arrow. The photo will appear in your text conversation with them.
